These are the male contestants appearing in the new series of Big Brother.

:: Rodrigo Lopes, 23

Student from Brazil

Rodrigo is half Italian, half Brazilian and came to the UK to study and to search for a better life. His family still lives in Brazil and he speaks to them every day, though he does not want to go back to Brazil, saying: “England is everything to me.”

He thinks that British people find him “very strange” because he hugs and kisses people and is very tactile.

Before he came to the UK he wasn’t interested in men but now he thinks he might be gay, although on average he dates an equal amount of men and women.

Rodrigo describes himself as ambitious and good-hearted although he thinks his mother would say he is a little feisty at times because when he sees something wrong he can’t keep quiet.

He once paid a taxi fare by giving the driver his shoes when he realised he had no money, and says his bad habits are picking his nose and feet when he is alone and farting and blaming it on other people.

After he finishes studying he wants to open a shop, although he doesn’t know what kind of shop yet.

:: Frederick George Fisher, 23

Entrepreneur from Market Drayton

Oxford University graduate Freddie describes himself as a polymath: a free spirit for whom 2009 is about blossoming, which is why he decided to go into the Big Brother house.

Freddie lives with his parents in a stately home and gets annoyed when people put his achievements down to the wealth of his parents.

He says his parents are clever, but they annoy him sometimes, but their house is so large it doesn’t matter as he only sees them at meal times.

Freddie was a member of the Young Conservative Association although says he is an anarchist at heart.

He has thought about becoming a politician though when he was four he wanted to be a palaeontologist and his dream job would be to be a rock star.

Freddie says he gets on with his siblings but has only recently got to know them as they were all at different boarding schools, and when he was seven years old he suddenly had “existential fear” that he was always going to be a mummy’s boy and never be able to stand on his own two feet.

He does not own a TV and claims not to know how Big Brother works.

:: Charlie Drummond, 22

Customer Service Adviser from Newcastle

Charlie won the Newcastle heat of Mr Gay UK in 2007 and has worked as a model, though he now works in customer service for the JobCentre, which he says he loves.

He says his favourite part of his job is walking into the office in the morning and saying “Good morning angels” to his colleagues, who reply “Good morning Charlie”.

A huge Big Brother fan, Charlie thinks he has a good chance of winning as he thinks the public will keep him in the house as it would be dull with out him. He says he has no game plan, and just wants to be himself in the house.

When he was younger he dreamed of being a pop star and wanted to be in a boy band, and says he was always the centre of attention at school.

Even now people think he is a show off, he says, and admits to a love of podium dancing on nights out.

As a child he left his pet frogs Freddie and Eddie outside one night, causing them to freeze. He tried to thaw them out with a hairdryer and now has a phobia of the amphibians.

:: Kris Donnelly, 24

Visual Merchandiser from Shrewsbury

Kris says he dropped out of university after the girls stopped doing his work for him, and despite having no job ambitions when younger, has worked as a model.

He says he is currently single through choice because he is waiting for “the one”, although he says he manages to pull someone every time he goes out.

Kris thinks people see him as good looking, confident and focused, but he says this is wrong.

“It is like having a Ferrari on the outside and a Skoda in the middle,” he says.

Because of his looks no one expects any personality from him, he says, and adds “when the package is this pretty no one cares what is inside”.

Kris thinks he will pass every task BB sets the house unless it involves shaving his head. He also thinks he can win.

Siavash Sabbaghpour, 23

Events organiser originally from Iran but now living in the UK

Siavash grew up in Iran but moved to the UK when he was a child and lives with his mum but mostly stays with friends. He says he has never paid a rent bill in his life.

He dropped out of university, where he was studying fashion, saying he hated it because he was surrounded by people without money.

Siavash says he is a slave to fashion and clothes define the individual. He is currently waiting for his big break to become a stylist, declaring that he is going to be the biggest designer ever as he “knows how to do stuff”.

He also admits to being a sponger, getting his friends to pay for everything for him, and will only go out if someone else pays for the table.

Because his friends are designers, he says, he does not have to pay for clothes either.

Siavash says his biggest regret in life is not having a bigger penis, and his bad habits include blowing bubbles with his spit.

In the future he would like to get married and adopt children because he says there is no point having your own because so many are already homeless.

:: Sree Dasari, 25

Student union elected president from India

Sree grew up in India, and left the country for the first time when he came to England to study for a masters degree in business.

He grew up with cleaners and cooks, and says that now his female housemates look after him instead. Sree says that girls tend to love him as he can flatter anyone.

Sree intends to stay a virgin until he meets the right girl. He is looking for someone that is patient, committed and honest and says his ideal woman is Beyonce.

Sree speaks to his parents every day. He calls them “living gods” because they have given him life and says he is close to all of his family.

His main ambition is to be an actor or prime minister but he would also like to be a celebrity so that he can work for charities and raise awareness of disease.

:: Cairon Austin-Hill, 18

Student from Florida

Cairon was born in London but moved to Florida when he was a year old and returned to the UK two years ago and now lives in the capital with his dad. Cairon is studying performing arts and one day would like to work in the music industry, ideally as a Hip Hop artist.

He describes himself as a typical teenager who loves drinking, smoking and partying and says that people see him as a joker or a “sarcastic prick”.

His father calls him Casanova as he used to be a “player” but he says he has calmed down this aspect of his personality.

Cairon does not think that Big Brother will change him as a person and says he will continue with his education and follow the same dreams. He predicts he will come in the top five.

:: Marcus Akin, 35

Window fitter from London

Sharing a house could be problematic for Marcus – he says he has not done it in 20 years.

He describes himself as a big child in a man’s body and likes to exaggerate to tell a “cool story”, and thinks Big Brother will be “like a mini Butlins and a regression into childhood”.

Marcus has a Siamese cat which he describes as “a bit of a bastard” as it steals money and sabotages plants.

He enjoys evening classes and has completed courses in Japanese, interior design, grounds maintenance, health and safety, food safety, first aid and construction and is currently doing an IT course.

One of the proudest moments in his life was renovating the windows in Windsor Castle and he says his ideal job would be a porn star or toy designer.
