These are the female contestants appearing in the new series of Big Brother.

:: Noirin Kelly, 25

Retail manager from Dublin

A former All-Ireland athletics champion who describes herself as a “girly girl”, Noirin says she believes education is the answer to everything.

She is a self-assured straight talker, though she says she has a bad habit of speaking before she thinks, so could end up insulting people unintentionally.

Noirin is a practising Roman Catholic and lives with her parents and younger siblings.

:: Beinazir Lasharie, 28

Study support assistant from London

Beinazir’s family were forced to flee their native Pakistan and seek asylum in the UK when she was one year old after her father – a supporter of Benazir Bhutto after whom she was named – received death threats over his political views.

She says growing up with two brothers has made her an “alpha female”, and she thinks she will make a “wicked housemate”, though her high-energy levels might get others down.

Beinazir says she believes that all religions preach the same thing and describes herself as a humanitarian. Working with children has made her more patient, humble and open-minded, she says.

Her life philosophy is: “You get what you give, you are what you eat, work hard play hard, and be yourself”.

:: Sophie Reade, 20

Glamour model from Cheshire

Sophie, whose bra size is 30GG, has been working as a glamour model for two years, posing nude for UK Playboy magazine and appearing at motorbike shows – but has never told her parents.

She lives at home with her parents, two older brothers and Chihuahuas Army and Moo, and says she regrets not going to university.

Though she makes no claims to great intelligence, she hates the “blonde bimbo” label and says she would make a good “president” of England because everyone would listen to her.

Sophie says she cares deeply about the war in Iraq and has raised more than £10,000 for the troops, and likes US President Barack Obama because “his daughters look cute”.

:: Angel McKenzie, 35

Professional boxer and artist from south London

Originally from Russia, Angel is an ex-rock star who moved to England 12 years ago and now runs a gym owned by her adopted “father”, a former British and European boxing champion.

She is passionate about boxing and fitness, neither smokes nor drinks alcohol and says she will approach the Big Brother experience as if it were a boxing bout.

Angel left home at 24 to pursue a career as a rock star, and was well known in Russia.

:: Lisa Wallace, 41

Unemployed and from Birmingham

Lisa has worked in various factories throughout her life and says she has learned to go without and is not greedy.

She was a geeky teenager who came out as a lesbian to a teacher after being teased about it, and admits to being a perfectionist when it comes to her hair and make-up.

Lisa is also a stickler for cleanliness at home, and says her home is so spotless you could eat off the floor.

She enjoys flirting with both sexes and would love to “turn” Angelina Jolie.

:: Sophia Brown, 26

Private banking assistant from London

Sophia, who is 4ft 11in and has suffered from lupus since she was young, describes herself as fun, fierce and feisty.

Her proudest achievement was getting an A* in GCSE English and says she was an ideal student at school, though she gave up on her dream of becoming a lawyer because she thought it would be too boring.

Sophia is single and says men give her headaches because she does not know what they want. She does not need a man to make her feel special.

Her worst habits are are randomly breaking into song, farting all the time and talking to herself.

:: Karly Ashworth, 21

Unemployed and from Fife

A part-time glamour model and one of FHM’s “high street honeys”, Karly says her job defines her 100% as she loves to show off, knows how to work the camera, and loves looking good.

Her proudest achievement was being accepted to study art and design at Dundee University, though she left after only three weeks.

Karly is passionate about women’s rights, empowering women and stopping domestic violence.

She believes in God but would not class herself as a proper Christian as she has had sex before marriage. She says girls generally think she is a bitch but they are just jealous of her.

Karly believes she can win this series of Big Brother, though she says that her untidiness may make her unpopular with her fellow housemates. She is a massive flirt but will not make the first move as she likes to be elusive.

Her favourite part of her body is her bum.

:: Saffia Corden, 27

Beauty consultant from Nottingham

A mother of two, Saffia hates people who stereotype her as a single mum and strives to be just the opposite.

She is adamant that no man would ever come between her and her children and will miss them “immensely” but BB will be “her time”. Single Saffia said she considered turning lesbian because she is sick of men.

Saffia says she always gets what she wants and says she’s usually seen as a show-off, a bitch and a fantastic mother, and she says all are true.

She says she is very competitive but does not think she will win. She is taking part in Big Brother to provide some direction in her life
